AXEL:

Crew member of the "Vigilant" under Cap-tain Soren. When Morpheus makes his case to the Zion Council that only Neo can save them from the oncoming Machine onslaught,

Soren is the first to offer the services of his ship and his crew to Morpheus's plan. The Vigilant crew is assigned to hack in to the City's power grid to disable the security systems of the Source building. As Soren and his team make their way to the control room, in the real world, a group of sentinels has located the Vigilant. The sentinels fire a tow bomb at the ship, and as Axel and Jax rush to take action, a walkway collapses killing them. The bomb hits the ship and explodes, killing all on board. Inside the Matrix, Soren and his crew collapse as their real world bodies die.

In Enter the Matrix, Vigilant crewmember Axel has been captured by Agents. The crew of the Logos happen to turn up at the airport, just as he is being transported, and they undertake a perilous rescue attempt.(Wikipedia)

ABEL (Exile):

Abel and Cain are two exiles from older versions of the matrix, who would have encountered deletion because of not fulfilling any purpose anymore. They have exiled and are serving the Merovingian who handles safe refugium for such programs. Abel and Cain appear as vampires and can be seen in Matrix Reloaded, when Persephone decides to help Neo in revenge of her husband, the Merovingian. She shoots one of the two with a silver bullet and sends the other to her husband.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (A.I.):

"Artificial intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science that deals with intelligent behavior, learning, and adaptation in machines. Research in AI is concerned with producing machines to automate tasks requiring intelligent behavior. Examples include control, planning and scheduling, the ability to answer diagnostic and consumer questions, handwriting, speech, and facial recognition." (Wikipedia)

In the first Matrix movie, we learn by Morpheus that it was A.I. that created the matrix to keep humans under control. In Animatrix we get a way deeper understanding of how it came to the war between humans and A.I. and we have to admit that humans escalated the situation against evolving A.I., by considering the far advanced sentient machines as a serious competitor which we would not accept as equals. The case of the first A.I. committing murder lead to a revolt of the sentient machines and ended up in cruel response by humans, which lead to the war and the so called Second Renaissance, an era ruled by A.I.

Some of the finest representatives of A.I. in the matrix movies are the Architect (creator of the matrix), the Oracle, an empathic sentient program gifted with oracular sight and deep insights into human psyche, the Merovingian, Persephone, Seraph and Sati.

THE ARCHITECT:

The Architect is a fictional character appearing in the last two films of the Matrix trilogy, created by the Wachowski brothers. The character is played by Helmut Bakaitis.

A.P.U.

A.P.U. stands for Armoured Personal Unit. These weapons are used in Zion to defend the dock from the sentinels of the machine world.

APOC:

Member of the Rebel Crew of the hovercraft Nebuchadnezzar with Morpheus as Captain.

ANOMALY (SYSTEMIC):

Neo is a systemic anomaly, a variant of the equations the entire source code is based on. These erroneous humans are freed and are isolated from the system in the city of Zion. But the variant that needs to balance the equation as always, becomes "The One".

We learn about this anomaly in Matrix Reloaded, where the Architect explains its workings to Neo. "The Architect says Neo is "the eventuality of an anomaly" he has been trying to eradicate from the Matrix program. The Architect says while he has been unsuccessful in eliminating this anomaly "from what is otherwise a harmony of mathematical precision", he has succeeded in controlling it. It is this control system that "has led [Neo]...here. The Architect confirms Neo's deduction and reveals how these anomalous errors occur "in even the most simplistic equations". Seeing the monitors react once again, Neo suddenly realizes why these errors occur: "Choice. The problem is choice."

The Architect proceeds to detail the history of the Matrix and just how this problem of choice affected its design. The first version of the Matrix was intended to be "perfect", "flawless" and "sublime", a design previously hinted at by Agent Smith in The Matrix. However, the humans refused to accept this utopia and it failed. Thinking that humans needed to have an imperfect world to survive, he created the second version of the Matrix "to more accurately reflect the varying grotesqueries of [human] nature." However, he "was again frustrated by failure.

Series of animated shortfilms, inspired by the matrix movies and screenplays written by the Wachowski Brothers. Directed by Peter Chung, Andy Jones and others.
